Deadhead legend brings Fragile Thunder to Open Space

Jam out with them this Friday at Open Space for Arts Community.

David Gans, a musician known to devotees of the Grateful Dead, will bring Fragile Thunder — a trio with his musical friends Anela Lauren and Stephen Inglis — to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Open Space for Arts & Community.

The band members all share a love for a great American musical form: jams. They have performed in various pairings in recent years, and are setting out to create a new acoustic take on the music of the Dead.

“David Gans, Anela Lauren, and Stephen Inglis are musical children of the Grateful Dead — fans of a formidable book of original songs, devotees of collective improvisation, and strong believers in live performance,” said Open Space organizers.

Band members compose their own music, interpret songs from a great variety of musical sources, and allow their performances to construct themselves to the greatest extent possible.

“We believe in the art of musical conversation, and we conduct that discourse in our own voices as opposed to mimicking the styles and sounds of others,” said Gans.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Open Space. General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Youths 18 and younger are free. Find out more and get tickets at openspacevashon.org.
