Hundreds of Islanders turned out, many of them kids, to the Island’s “community cool-off,” held on Wednesday at Ober Park.
Vashon Island Fire & Rescue supplied the water, which gushed from its tender truck and cascaded down over the masses, cooling many on a day when temperatures topped 100 on Vashon.
The fire department had never done this before, but firefighter Jason Everett said “it was a huge success.”
Another “community cool-off” will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Ober Park.
Below, see a slide show of snapshots taken at the cool-off. Photos were taken by Beachcomber arts editor Elizabeth Shepherd and Vashon Park District executive director Wendy Braicks.
