A three-concert series of intimate chamber music is coming to Vashon starting next Tuesday, courtesy of the Cohan-Shangrow Duo, featuring Jeffrey Cohan on flute and George Shangrow on harpsichord and piano.

The concerts, to be held at Vashon Methodist Church, will boast a diverse repertoire.

The first concert, set for 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, is being dubbed a “Gala Bach Bash,” and will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s sonatas for flute and harpsichord.

The next concert, “Candlelight Baroque,” will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 22. It will include what Cohan called “contrasting works by Handel, Vivaldi, Bach and sons and others — performed with the requisite breadth of feeling and ornamentation galore.”

The series will conclude at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, with jazzy music for flute and piano by Northwest composers Huntley Beyer and Robert Kechley.

The two musicians responsibile for the concerts are both highly regarded.

Cohan has performed as soloist in 25 countries, having received international acclaim both as a modern flutist and as a specialists on all transverse flutes from the Renaissance through the present. He is artistic director of the Capitol Hill Chamber Music Festival in Washington D.C. and the Cascade Early Music Festival.

George Shangrow is music director and founder of Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers. He has been a featured conductor with symphonies and operas worldwide.

Admission to individual concerts is $20 and $15 for seniors and students. Series passes are also available for $50 and $40 for students and seniors. Youth 18 and younger will be admitted free.
