Celebrated, genre-crossing string band to play on Vashon

The band has played stages worldwide, from Telluride Bluegrass Festival to “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Inhabiting the space between classical and acoustic roots, Celtic and bluegrass aesthetics, folk and jazz sensibilities, the world-class string quartet, Kittel & Co., will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Open Space for Arts & Community.

The group is made up of acclaimed violinist Jeremy Kittel (formerly of the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet), mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham, guitarist Quinn Bachand, bassist Jacob Warren, and hammer-dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman.

The band has played stages worldwide, from Telluride Bluegrass Festival to “A Prairie Home Companion.”

What’s more, members of Kittel & Co. have collaborated with such artists as Béla Fleck, Sarah Jarosz, Chris Thile and Yo-Yo Ma.

“This is the exact kind of event we love to have at Open Space,” said Open Space’s executive director, Chuck Zimmer, “Their emphasis on variety and genre-bending means that there is going to be something for everyone.”

Open Space is located at 18870 103rd Avenue SW, Vashon, WA 98070.

Tickets are $25 for online advanced general admission and $30 on the day of the show. Youth tickets are free online, pending availability. No one will be turned away for lack of funds at the door if seats remain.
