Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will host a lively night of Cuban-influenced dance music this weekend.

The well-known Seattle band Picoso will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, for a free show for ages 21 and older.

And before the show, from 8 to 9 p.m., March Twisdale will offer free salsa lessons to ready the crowd for a night on the dance floor.

The seven-piece band has played on Vashon before, attracting enthusiastic crowds to dance to its invigorating blend of salsa, son and reggae music.

The group’s instrumentation includes tres, guitar, trumpet, saxophone, flute, bass, congas and timbales.

Alfonso Gonzales sings lead vocals.

Another free show planned for the weekend features an Island band.

Marilyn Kay and Company will play an all-ages show at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18.

The group, known for vocal harmonies, plays a mix of original compositions, traditional bluegrass and country classics.

Marilyn Kay is the principle songwriter and lead vocalist. Her songs range from classic honky-tonk tunes to beautiful ballads to lively gospel numbers.

Mandolin, banjo, dobro, fiddle and guitar all figure prominently in the band’s old-timey sound.
