The Backbone Campaign and VashonMusic.com will present “Start Me Up!” — another musical extravaganza of Vashon Island talent, this time featuring the music of The Rolling Stones.

The fundraiser will kick off at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.

More than 40 Island musicians have signed up to play renditions of their favorite Stones tunes. And organizers promise that although “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll,” it will sure to be a night to remember.

David Godsey and Jason Everett will give “Sympathy for the Devil.” Mark Shepherd will “Play With Fire,” and Tom Bean will call the “Dear Doctor.” Robyn Landis and Kat Eggleston will race with “Wild Horses,” leading to Jack Barbash’s “Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown.”

Entertainer Steffon Moody will emcee, and there will be a live auction, with Stone-related items and green gifts for the holidays.

All money raised from the event will fund the Backbone Campaign’s Spring Campus Tour across the country and events in Washington D.C. coinciding with the presidential inauguration. Following the recent election’s mandate for change, the Backbone Campaign continues to focus its efforts on bolstering a strong progressive movement.

“We are currently creating Backbone Brigades to provide a creative street presence in service of progressive policy goals,” executive director Bill Moyer said. “We are capitalizing on four years of work creating a Progressive Cabinet to push progressive leaders and ideas into the next cabinet. Finally, we are deploying our Procession for the Future to 13 campuses and towns this Spring to draw in and deliver tactics trainings to young emerging activists.

“We’ve been preparing for this moment, and we are ready to switch from opposition to proposition, emergency brake against disaster to accelerator for change,” he added. “The Vashon community has been instrumental in the ability of the Backbone Campaign to thrive. Let’s continue that partnership to define and propel ‘change we can believe in,’ for as always, it is the people who lead, and the leaders who follow.”

If pre-event ticket sales are strong, the Bike will consider dedicating both areas of the bar and restaurant to the concert, broadcasting the stage on its screens in the bar and alleviating the crowded space. The event is all-ages until 9:30 p.m.; after that, it’s 21 and up.
