A chamber music concert with flute, viola and guitar

The Salish Sea Early Music Festival will present “1820: Flute, Viola and Guitar,” a rare program of chamber music from the time of Beethoven and Schubert played by virtuoso musicians Jeffery Cohan, Oleg Timofeyev and Steve Creswell, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Vashon Methodist Church. The musicians will play period instruments. There is a suggested donation of $15 or $20. Those 18 and younger are free.

Waterworks Studio on Maury Island will present a special show this weekend featuring the work of 12 local artists. The show opens on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. with a reception for the artists and continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The show includes work from seasoned artists Bob Horsley, Donna Kaplan and Darsie Beck, as well as work from workshop students. Many of the artists in the show have honed their creative skills using tools learned in Beck’s “Essential Nature” workshops. The latest edition of Beck’s book, “Your Essential Nature, a Practical Guide to Greater Creativity and Spiritual Harmony,” further expands upon his concept of a morning-centered ritual for artists that includes  writing, drawing and meditation. The studio is located at 7012 S.W. 240th Street.

A song for Mother Earth

Celebrate Earth Day by joining your voice with Amrita, a call-and-response chorale group that sings sacred songs from around the globe, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Island Yoga Studio, located above Northwest Sports. Short short film festival

The first Sixty Second Film Festival will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Vashon Theatre. Films for the festival are currently being selected by editors of TheVashonLine. Andrew Will has supplied wine for the event and Theo Chocolate is providing sweets. Opera buffs alert

Acclaimed opera lecturer Norm Hollingshead will return to Vashon exclusively for Vashon Opera to present a free preview lecture about Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Vashon Library.
