Dia de los Muertos activities at Vashon Center for the Arts are now taking place and will culminate in a community celebration on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the arts center.
Once again this year, islanders are invited to decorate VCA’s community ofrenda (altar), honoring and remembering loved ones who have died. All are welcome to visit or contribute to the ofrenda, which opened on Oct. 26, by adding photos and personal items to the display during VCA’s business hours of 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
All personal belongings must be picked up by Friday, Nov. 4.
A free Dia de los Muertos celebration for all ages will take place at VCA at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, featuring Bailadores de Bronce of Seattle.
The ensemble will perform festive and traditional Folklorico dances, representing the different states of Mexico, along with specialty performers, puppetry, and storytelling.
Following the event, VCA will offer a fiesta in its atrium with food from local Mexican food caterers La Isla.
There will also be craft-making and face-painting stations at the event.
