Talk at VALISE

VALISE Gallery, a collective of Island artists, will host a talk with Gust Burns at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the gallery. Burns will discuss his sound installation, “Felt,” which is a collaboration with poet Melanie Noel. Through the medium of dubplate acetate records, the installation looks at issues including age, accumulation and deterioration and how these phenomena affect and inform each other.

Last call for New Works

Applications are still being accepted for Vashon Allied Arts’ New Works Series 2010. The series provides the Blue Heron venue for local artists from all disciplines, including music, dance, literature and theater, to premiere new work and/or new collaborations, between January and November 2010. Count Bleed-Ya-Dry, a giant puppet created by the Backbone Campaign to call attention to the need for health care reform, is currently on a cross-country tour.
