Last chance for ‘Flower Power’

Almost 100 artists, most of whom are Islanders, have work on display in Silverwood Gallery’s annual invitational show.This year’s show, “Flower Power,” has a botanical theme, and includes whimsical sculptures, colorful tiled and stone works, delicately crafted jewelry and vibrant drawings and paintings. The show closes on Saturday, March 27.

Island artist’s work was on the tube

Lynn Wilhoit, longtime Island artist, had one of her paintings — a watercolor depicting the sun — shown on “CBS Sunday Morning.” The show selects and uses images of suns sent in by artists nationwide.

A Vashon poet looks back at childhood

Author and artist Kara L.C. Jones has published “Woodmont Ave,” a poetry chapbook capturing poetic snapshots of childhood memories from several generations of her family, all taking place on Woodmont Ave. in Arnold, Penn. Vashon Opera names ‘Tender Land’ team

Vashon Opera has announced the artistic staff for its next opera, “The Tender Land,” which will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16. Principal singers are Brendan Tuohy as Martin, Lorraine Burdick as Ma Moss, Lili Stenn as Beth Moss, Jennifer Krikawa as Laurie Moss, David Stutz as Grandpa Moss, Andrew Krikawa as Top and Gary Koch as Mr. Splinters. The musical director and conductor will be Gary Cannon, and Andrew Seifert will be the stage director. Christine Juarez will serve as choreographer, and Kate Guinee will be the costume mistress.
