Flamenco at the Havurah
Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes and singer/multi-instrumentalist, Diego Amador Jr., will present “Night Flowers, an evening of Flamenco,” at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Vashon Havurah, at 15401 Westside Hwy SW.
Fuentes has produced and danced in more than 400 performances and workshops featuring internationally recognized Spanish Flamenco artists. Tickets, $12 to $22, are on sale at tinyurl.com/57v5nnfh.
Concert for a cause
The Confessions, a band fronted by Vashon’s own Camille Reeves, will perform a special concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Vashon Brewery, to benefit the Yes on I-1471 campaign for Universal Healthcare for Washington State.
Iyad’s Syrian Grill food truck will be on-site, at 17206 Vashon Hwy. SW., to provide dinner to concert-goers.
The concert is being organized by islander Roxanne Thayer, who is active in Whole Washington Health Care, a coalition of healthcare professionals and volunteers who endorse efforts to make universal healthcare a reality.

Hawaiian Trio plays
Open Space for Arts & Community will present the acclaimed Hawaiian music trio, Waipuna, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26.
The trio, featuring Kale Hannahs, Matt Sproat, and David Kamakahi, preserves tradition while introducing contemporary energy to Hawaiian classics and the island sound.

Gator Nation comes to town
Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) will present the exuberant rhythms of Zydeco, with the acclaimed band Gator Nation performing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in VCA’s Kay White Hall.
The six-piece band plays a blend of Zydeco, Cajun, and New Orleans-style R&B.
Gator Nation’s appearance on Vashon is being produced as part of a promotional tour for the Sun Valley Music Jazz & Music Festival, where the band has performed several times.

Maijah performs at VCA
Island-raised pop star Maijah will return to her hometown to headline a dance party to celebrate her debut EP, “Star-Fairy,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Vashon Center for the Arts. Maijah’s show promises charming lyrics, powerhouse vocals, and divine feminine energy — including openers Eva Cain and Stella Mar.
With musical influences including Doja Cat, Amy Winehouse, Jorja Smith, Sabrina Claudio, and Adele, Maijah brings a jazz and R&B-inspired style to the table while introducing fresh ideas of current pop.

Bric/Brac Music and Arts Festival coming up
A new music festival, presented by Open Space for Arts & Community, Mode Music and the Vera Project to benefit young artists, will launch in early August at Open Space for Arts & Community.
The Bric/Brac Music and Arts Festival, directed by island musician Mike Dumovich, will raise money for local music and arts programs that support the mission to inspire creativity among Vashon youth. This year, the proceeds will benefit Mode Music scholarships and the ORBIT all-ages space at Open Space for Arts & Community.
Performers in the inaugural edition of the festival include Naked Giants, Caitlan Sherman, Julia Shapiro, and the Seattle band It’s All Happening.
