Island artists are invited to submit entries for the third annual Vashon Island Farmers Market poster contest between Jan. 10 and Feb. 7. All artwork should be printed in full color and at full size and then mailed to Ralph Moore, P.O. Box 13533, Burton, 98013. On a separate sheet of paper, artists should include their full names, addresses, phone numbers, title of artwork and the medium used. The artwork will be used to create the poster that will promote the 2010 Vashon Farmers Market. Artwork may be created in any medium. The design should convey the spirit of the Farmers Market. All submissions will also be considered for an art exhibit at a local art gallery. For complete information and details about the contest, e-mail Moore at andmoore2@comcast.net.
The Church of Great Rain will present a special version of its popular variety show at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Open Space for Arts & Community. According to Greg Parrott, who created the show and has overseen its growth over the past year, Church of Great Rain’s Valentine’s Day Special will be the biggest undertaking yet for the group, and the show will include a special musical guest as well as all new material — sketches, performances and music — performed by the show’s talented corps of regular contributors. What’s more, Islanders can get in on the fun by sending love poems and letters in advance to cogr@live.com. Entries will be randomly selected to be read live during the show. Admission will be by donation.
