Legendary pianist plays a benefit
George Winston, the influential solo pianist famed for his Windham Hill albums, will perform a benefit concert for Vashon Youth & Family Services at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Vashon Theatre. Tickets are $50 and $100; call 463-5511 for more information.

Singer/songwriter Kate Graves will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 17.

Portland songwriter Cris Kelly will play a solo show of original folk music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Kelly fronts the Americana band One Horse Shy.
The Shy Sundays will play at noon Sunday, April 19. This Vashon band plays Celtic, bluegrass, swing, klezmer and folk music.
Celtic players and knitters are invited to gather at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 19, for a combination of jigs, reels, polkas and homespun crafting.
A funky good time
Soul Nite at the Vashon Theatre will return at 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, with more rare, vintage footage of performances from soul music artists of the 1960s and ’70s.
The lineup on the big screen will include Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Sam & Dave, Marvin Gaye and many others.
The night is sponsored by Lollar Pickups and presented by Vashon Film Society and the Vashon Theatre. Getting into the fun, neighboring restaurant Gusto Girls will offer a soul food special that evening.
Admission to Soul Nite is $5.
Everybody loves a cat
Vashon Island Youth Chorus will present “Disney’s The Aristocats Kids” and a concert of world music at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18, and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Tickets are $7/$9. Call VAA at 463-5131 to reserve.
Redeker will play a show
Daryl Redeker, a well-known Island singer, songwriter and guitarist, will play a free solo show at The Hardware Store Restaurant from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
Redeker has been writing and recording music since the early 1970s, and has eight albums and more than 150 other recording projects to his credit. He has also toured extensive-ly and taught guitar for many years.
Redeker has also written, scored and performed music for children’s plays, a ballet and other media.
Splendor in the brass
The Echelon Brass Quintet will play a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Vashon Presbyterian Church. Admission is $5.
The group includes Todd Merkley, Vincent Green, David Kappy, Stan Jeffs and Ed Phillips.
The concert will include original works for brass quintet and transcriptions of compositions from over four centuries.
