Summer Concerts in the Park kick off with an event from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 17, when Island group Rumor Has It will perform “string band rock.” The eight-member band made its debut just a year ago, but already has gained a following with its danceable music and mesmerizing harmonies. Sponsored by Vashon Park District and Vashon Allied Arts, the event is free. Vashon Junior Civic Ballet will present its spring production, “The Pied Piper,” later this month. Dozens of dancers, from toddlers to teens, will take part in the Island-grown dance. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at the Vashon High School theater. Tickets are $6 to $10 and can be purchased at the door. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
