All-American duo plays free show at Luna
Janie Cribbs and Joe Reggiatore, a duo better known as Janie and Joe, will give a free concert at Café Luna at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
The pair performs on keyboards, percussion instruments including the bodhran (an Irish goatskin drum) and acoustic and electric guitars.
Concert organizers said the duo are “gifted songwriters able to go from a sparse, achingly tender love song to an up-tempo sultry blues number, and then turn the corner into a bouncy Irish-flavored instrumental and top that off with a rockin’ balls-to-the-wall socially conscious tune that leaves the crowd begging for more.”
Janie and Joe recently released a double CD called “Postcards from a Tiny American Town.”
Poetry open mic with a Vashon twist
Another “8-Word, 8-Day” poetry open mic will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Café Luna.
Poets are urged to create a poem using eight Island words: “portage, renegade ferry,” “___town,” and “chillin at Café Luna,” taking care to use all eight words, in intact phrases.
Open mic participants may also bring any other poem to share.
“The open mic is about people sharing poetry, any poetry,” said Devon Atkins, event organizer. “What more could you want than a bunch of your friends and neighbors, loving poetry right out loud?”
Sign up at Café Luna to participate. The first six slots are always reserved for Vashon’s youngest poets.
Ali Marcus brings folk and pop to Vashon
Seattle singer and songwriter Ali Marcus will play a free show at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Café Luna.
Marcus has played at well-known Seattle venues including Northwest Folklife, the Experience Music Project, Tractor Tavern and Conor Byrne, and also tours nationally.
She plays guitar, harmonica and piano and said her music ranges from “folk to blues to indie to pop.”
She has recorded five albums and is working on another, tentatively titled “Orion.”
