Fathers and kids will take the stage at the Bike
Vashon Events will host a special musical evening called Father’s Day Showcase to honor dads and their children at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Bike.
Fathers, along with their daughters or sons, will be perform at the event as musicians, dancers and comedy teams. Allison Shirk, who with her partner Pete Welch founded Vashon Events, will preside over the 20 musical ensembles as master of ceremonies.
The cover fee goes toward supporting Vashon Events, the website Shirk and Welch created to bring together all the artistic, cultural and charity events on the island with the aim of building a more connected community. Vashon Events helps island arts organizations collaborate on scheduling and leverage resources to bring diverse performances to Vashon.
Tickets are $8 and will be available at the door.
Tony Award-winning play comes to St. John Vianney
Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play “Art” will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday and run through the weekend at St. John Vianney church.
The play is a dark comedy that premiered in Paris in 1994 and then went on to win critical acclaim during its long Broadway run.
The story revolves around three long-standing friends played by Steve Tosterud, Kirk Beeler and Rev. Marc Powell, with direction by Ken Drew. One of the characters buys a large, expensive piece of modern art that is a completely white painting. The art sparks heated conversations and raises provocative questions about art and friendship, love and truth.
“Art” will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday at St. John Vianney church. Admission is free, but a donation between $10 and $20 is suggested. Proceeds will help enhance the church’s performance space.
A question and answer session with the cast and director will follow each show.
Father’s Day music festival will benefit VIPP
Celebrate dad on Father’s Day at The Father’s Day Musical Festival from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Vashon Distillery.
The festival is a benefit for Vashon Island Pet Protectors and will feature music by Poultry in Motion, Rusty Willoughby, Jason Staczek, and Danny Newcomb & The Sugarmakers.
There will be wine from Andrew Will Winery, spirits from Seattle Distilling Company, freshly baked pizza from LaBiondo Woodfired Pizza and snowcones for the kids.
