Artist Pam Ingalls is honored
A familiar Island scene will be on view at the Oil Painters of America Exhibition, set for June 10 through July 9 at Devin Gallery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. There were more than 2,100 entries for this year’s exhibit, but Island artist Pam Ingalls won a coveted spot in the show with her painting “Final Touches,” depicting Melinda and Dick Sontgerath working at The Hardware Store Restaurant.
A father and son play the Bike
Mike Dumovich, Jr., and Mike Dumovich, Sr., will play a rare show together at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The younger Dumovich is a fixture on the Seattle music scene and has won rave reviews for his music. Critic Brian Barr wrote that Dumovitch Jr. “sings pensive songs, delivering them in a matter-of-fact voice and radiant guitar plucking that can put you in a trance.” The elder Dumovich began performing in 1964, playing washtub bass at Olympia’s Null Set Coffee House behind such Northwest legends as Barefoot John Hendericks. Influenced by live acoustic players such as John Browne and Gene Jaleski and the recordings of Leadbelly, John Fahey and Robert Johnson, Dumovich teamed up with other musicians to form the New Hokum Blues Band, playing festivals, college venues and the coffee house circuit throughout the Northwest. He has lived on Vashon since the 1970s. The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older after that.
Islewilde has a big benefit
Islewilde’s annual “Mother of All Shows” benefit will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The show will raise funds for this year’s Islewilde Performance Festival — the 19th edition of a free, public festival that take places on Vashon every August. There is a $10 suggested donation for the benefit, which will include comedy by Steve Lipke, Thaddeus Jurczynski, Jim Farrell, Katherine Daves, Steffon Moody and the Seattle sketch group Ubiquitous. Musicians John Browne, Rob Strausser and Iris Spring will play, and Albert Einstein impersonator Patrick McManus will also be in the lineup. More performers are still being added to the lineup — check www.islewilde.org for more information. The Islewilde Performance Festival will be held from August 6 to 21 in a meadow on Old Mill Road.
Dive into a film at Café Luna
Lunavision will present a free screening of “Dive,” a documentary by Los Angeles filmmaker Jeremy Seifert, at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Café Luna. The film follows Seifert as he scavenges dumpsters behind supermarkets, discovering mountains of good, edible food that had been tossed in the trash.
