Artists will open their doors for studio tour

The first two weekends in May kick off the Spring Art Studio Tour, when over 30 island artists will open their studio doors in 21 different locations.

The first two weekends in May kick off the Spring Art Studio Tour, when over 30 island artists will open their studio doors in 21 different locations.

The tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, May 2 and 3 and 9 and 10.

Visitors can meet the artists, ask questions about their creative process, enjoy the variety of artistic mediums and purchase art directly from the artist.

New on the tour will be a mother-son show with landscape fused glass pieces by Mary Jo Svensen and paintings of familiar Vashon scenes by Michael Leavitt. Jewelry will be well represented with work by Michael Kenney, Zuzko Jewelry, Gordon Bell and Jo Hollingsworth, among others. Jiji Saunders will demonstrate the 2,000-year-old wax encaustic painting technique at her studio, and Heron’s Nest will display work by some of the 100 local artists the gallery represents. Other studios will have garden art, tiles, sculptures, photographs, prints, fabric art, paintings and more.
