Art Briefs | August 29 edition

Dockton Art Walk, an art bazaar and the Stupid Bike Night are all coming up.

Dockton Art Walk

Dockton Artists, a recently formed collective, will present a public art walk on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. A total of 15 artists will show their work in seven studios, all within walking distance of each other in the Dockton neighborhood. Studios will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, Aeggy’s food cart will be in the neighborhood to provide sustenance for those on the art walk.

Artwork will include paintings, drawings, prints, jewelry, neon art, photography, pottery, and stained glass, as well as felted clothing, shoes and hats. For more information, visit the Dockton Artists’ Facebook page.

Art Bazaar

Vashon Center for the Arts invites Vashon artists to offer their art for sale in the Vashon Art Bazaar, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, at the Blue Heron Education Center.

Registration is now open at bit.ly/ArtBazaar2024, and closes at midnight on Sept. 10. The sale provides artists an opportunity to clear out their studio or storage and find new homes for their work. It also makes art more accessible to new and/or emerging collectors at different price points. All art will be priced at a 30-50% discount (or more) of value.

VCA’s standard commission split applies, where artists receive 60% of the final sale price.

Eligible works include original artwork by the artist, whether shown before or not. In addition, VCA is accepting a limited amount of art that may have a very slight defect or “seconds,” art studies, etc. Work does not need to be framed. However, unframed work should be in sleeves for protection. Art drop-off is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

Stupid Bike Night

Local band EOS will play at Sportys during the First Friday Gallery Walk on Sept. 6 in support of a long-lasting Vashon tradition, Stupid Bike Night, when dozens of creative islanders will take to the streets at dusk on lighted-up and tricked-out bicycles.

EOS is a collective group of Vashon musicians that cover legendary rock but also bring original driving tunes to the stage. Band members are Henry Porter on guitar and vocals, Zelda Porter on vocals, Nano Infante on guitar, Geno Kuhns on drums, and Greg Martin on bass.

The band will start playing at 7 p.m. They will play two sets of music, broken up by a bike-watching break as Stupid Bike Night riders roll through the center of town.
