Troubadours play a Celtic, folk and world concert
The husband-wife musical duo Four Shillings Short will play a concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Four Shillings Short plays traditional and original music from Ireland and Scotland, world and folk music and a cappella songs. The couple plays over 30 different instruments in their musical repertoire.
Celebrating almost two decades together, Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland, and Christy Martin from California live as classical troubadours, performing 150 concerts a year in the US and Ireland.
O’Tuama specializes in playing the tinwhistles, woodwinds, recorders, Moroccan doumbek, bowed psaltery and spoons. He sings in English and Gaelic.
Martin studied sitar for 10 years with sitar master Ravi Shankar. She also plays over 10 other stringed instruments and sings in English, Irish, Spanish and Sanskrit.
Tickets are $10 at the door.
Free concert in the park promises great dancing
Get ready for some stomp-worthy dancing when the Bellingham bluegrass band Polecat takes the outdoor stage for the next Concert in the Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Ober Park.
Formed in Bellingham in 2010, Polecat has quickly established itself throughout the West, with three records and 400 shows in four years. The group blends genres, including bluegrass, country, Celtic rock and world into its unique sound.
Karl Olson plays drums; Jeremy Elliott plays the electric guitar and vocals; Aaron Guest is on vocals and 12-string guitar; Cayley Schmid is on the fiddle, and Richard Reeves plays upright bass.
Polecat has shared the stage with several nationally acclaimed acts, including The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, Sam Bush Band, The Hackensaw Boys, The Moondoogies, Fruition and Trampled by Turtles.
Seattle band Swindler brings fusion music to the Bike
The Seattle band Swindler will bring its sound of deep-pocket groove and intricate fusion to the Bike at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Featuring Mike Saskor on guitar, Willow Goodine on keys, Rob Cochran on bass and Chris Martin on drums, the band is gaining in popularity around the Northwest.
Swindler has shared the stage with national artists such as Jerry Joseph and most recently headlined the Port Townsend Strangebrew Festival.
This is a free, all-ages show until 11 p.m., then 21 and older after that.
