Six accomplished Vashon female musicians will fill the Red Bicycle with their melodies from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 7, in a free, all-ages show.
The women’s musical styles run the gamut from emotional to uplifting and healing, and attendees are in for a rare treat at the all-woman, all-acoustic showcase at the Bike.
• Kiki Means has been immersed in music since she was 2. Her father, who patiently encouraged, taught and accompanied her throughout the years, is her strongest musical influence. In elementary school, she discovered her love and aptitude for the guitar under the tutelage of Daryl Redeker, Island musician, who first encouraged her to “play out” after witnessing her passion for self-expression through music.
• Kat Eggleston’s incomparable music has dazzled audiences around the world. Her original songs have won worldwide acclaim for their lyrical and emotional truth, while her passionate, sometimes humorous lyrics create images of great conflict with arresting realism. She is a startlingly strong fingerstyle guitarist, often intertwining her songs with Celtic dance tunes arranged for the guitar.
• Kate MacLeod’s songwriting style and live performances display an unbreakable link between traditional music and cutting-edge contemporary songwriting. Her songs have been recorded by artists from California to the Czech Republic.
• Kelsey Alina started singing when she was 1, and she began taking piano and singing lessons at age 5. As she grew up, her singing career expanded. Her passion is evident in the way her fingers play the piano and the way her soulful voice sounds in song.
• Allison Shirk is a singer and songwriter whose style is described as being sultry and confident with a edge. As a child, her usual shyness faded away as soon as she began singing. Shirk has a distinctive voice with a slightly southern accent. She describes places and people that linger in listeners’ minds long after the song ends.
• Sarah Christine is a musician who said she has been influenced and inspired by the mountains, evergreens and everchanging bodies of water that surround her. Christine’s style of music is a blend of folk, soul and reggae interwoven with conscious lyrics and uplifting positivity.
“Music is alive and constantly breathing throughout our universe,” she said. “It dances among the breezes and is available to take us into higher realms. I give thanks for the gift of music and seek to be an instrument to facilitate growth, awareness and love.”
