Picoso returns to the Bike
Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi is bringing back Picoso, a popular Cuban-influenced dance band. The band plays a pulsating mix of rythmns and will take the Bike’s stage at 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 2. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and after that, for ages 21 and older only. The cover charge is $5.
Musicians from Olympia play at Café Luna
Olympia musician Paul Mauer will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, in a free concert at Café Luna. He will be joined by fellow Olympian Mike Fekete. Mauer offers a blend of aggressive acoustic indie rock mixed with the sensitivity of the folk singer and songwriters of the 1970s. Fekete performs solo acoustic guitar, drawing influences from the Takoma tradition as well as the Windham Hill sound. There will be a tip jar for the musicians.
There’s music at Buddha Bar
Singer and songwriter Paul Benoit will play at Buddha Bar and Lounge, located inside Spice Route Cuisine of India, at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 3. Benoit has collaborated with numerous musicians to release 16 albums. To find out more about him, visit www.paulbenoitmusic.com.
Michael Meade has an Island performance
Author and mythologist Michael Meade will bring “Tales of the Divine” to Vashon at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Vashon Methodist Church. There is a suggested donation of $12 for the evening. Meade will explore ways to become a “disciple” in one’s own life and how to find one’s true worth. The evening, Meade says, will include a dynamic array of stories, poems and commentary that offer tools for negotiating the troubles of the modern world while finding paths of purpose, meaning and destiny.
Barrett and Perrault will deliver ‘Wisecracks’
Emmy award-winning comic Jan Barrett, who lived on Vashon for eight years back in the 1970s and ’80s, will perform in “Wisecracks,” a night of comedy at Sound Food on Saturday, April 3. She’ll be joined by another comedienne, Rénee Perrault. The show is for ages 21 and older.
Some longtime Islanders may remember Barrett as the owner of a funky clothing store called Grin and Barrett.
Since leaving the Island, Barrett has toured all over the country, opening for Jerry Seinfeld, Dana Carvey and other national stars. Tickets for the show are $21 per person and include a buffet of appetizers by Shefidgets Catering. Enson and Joyce are loud and proud
Martha Enson and Kevin Joyce, of EnJoy Productions, will have a world premier performance of their new show, “The New Loud Americans,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10, at Blue Heron Art Center.
Enson and Joyce, who are UMO founding members, play George and Eunice Blundt, whose mission is “To Preserve Americans’ Right to Volume.”
