A music-filled weekend is coming at Red Bicycle Bistro.

On Friday night, reggae roots legend Clinton Fearon will bring his Boogie Brown Band to the Bike’s stage for a night of infectious riffs, soulful singing and danceable songs.

The next evening, Islanders will gather at the local night spot to pay tribute to a beloved Island folk hero at a fundraising event.

That show, dubbed by organizer Pete Welch as The John Browne Appreciation Night, will feature a host of Vashon musicians, all taking the stage to help raise money for Browne, a longtime Islander and nurseryman known for his traditional blues guitar playing and singing.

Browne was seriously injured in an accident that took place when he was trying to clear away a tree that had fallen across a road at the height of the Nov. 22 snowstorm on Vashon. He has spent the past several weeks recovering from his injuries, first in a Tacoma General intensive care unit and then in a convalescent facility. Last week, he returned home.

All the money raised at the event on Saturday will go to help offset Browne’s medical expenses.

According to Welch, the night will include more than 25 songs and lots of stories about Browne. There will be video surprises as well, Welch said, who added that he also planned to videotape the entire event so he could show it to Browne.

“He can critique it later from his bedside,” Welch said, “so musicians take note.”

Clinton Fearon’s show starts at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, and has a cover charge of $10. The John Browne Appreciation Night starts at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18. Admission to that show is by donation. Both events take place at Red Bicycle Bistro, which is an all-ages venue until 11 p.m., and for ages 21 and older after that.
