Last week, on a still summery evening, Vashon dressed up for First Friday festivities and launched the fall art season.

The night showed off the embarrassment of riches that is Vashon’s art community. In Burton, there was a new Ted Kutscher show at Silverwood Gallery. The Blue Heron was packed with both the glitterati and the hoi polloi, who converged to admire nearly 150 pieces of art included in Vashon Allied Arts’ upcoming auction.

In town, Jenn Reidel’s intense and dreamy photographs were on display at 070, while across the street, Two Wall Gallery featured artwork celebrating Vashon Island Growers Association, plus a delectable spread of hors d’oeuvres made by those very same farmers.

There was live music at the Vashon Bookshop, a teen “chalk-down” in front of AJ’s Espresso and art adorning the walls of almost every shop in town.

To put the capper on a great night out on the town, Gusto Girls was filled to the brim with fashionistas, enjoying three impromptu catwalks featuring the stunning creations of clothing designers Tess Crocker, Arlette Moody and Cathy Zbryk.
