An accomplished roster of musicians will play an evening of chamber music for strings at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Blue Heron Art Center.

It’s the second concert in a new chamber music series offered by Vashon Allied Arts.

The series is being organized by cellists Rowena Hammill and Doug Davis, who recently moved to the Island. Both have had long and distinguished careers as classical musicians.

At the upcoming concert, they’ll be joined by Ron Patterson, a Seattle violinist, Roxanna Patterson, who plays viola, and Island violinist Karin Choo.

The evening’s program will gradually introduce the entire ensemble to the stage.

Hammill selected a Mozart’s violin/viola duo to begin the concert, to be followed by a piece by Ernst von Dohnányi that incorporates cello.

That piece will be followed by a quartet by Anton Arnesky that adds a second cello to the mix, and the program will end with all five musicians playing Schubert’s String Quartet in C Major.

Hammill and Davis have worked with the Pattersons on several projects, including concerts for Chamber Music San Juans.

The Pattersons, who perform together as Duo Patterson, are acclaimed musicians.

Ron Patterson, an endowed professor at the University of Washington School of Music since 1999, was a student of Jascha Heifetz, Eudice Shapiro and Manuel Compinsky.

He has played extensively in the United States and Europe since the age of 11, performing 45 works, including six world premieres, in more than 150 solo performances.

Roxanna Patterson has appeared in recital and as a soloist with orchestras worldwide.
