After seven years, Cami Maree will finally return to Vashon Island — where it all began.
Known to many islanders by her former last name, Lundeen, she will perform a solo show, presented by islander Debra Heesch, at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at Dig Deep Gardens.
After an intense battle with cancer in 2023, the alternative soul rocker back to performing with even greater fierceness and passion, Heesch said.
Cami’s most recent EP, “Scars,” Heesch added, reflects her life’s journey — exploring “the idea that our trials help make us who we are — and we can fight them, or we can embrace them.”
Cami’s music career began at her church on Vashon. She played her first public show at the local farmer’s market in the spring of 2012, and quickly amassed an adoring following by playing numerous shows on Vashon and venues around Seattle including The Crocodile, The Hard Rock Café, and The Triple Door.
Leaving Washington state in June 2014, Cami toured the country for five months before settling in the Gainesville, Florida area, where she performed at a variety of venues. She relocated to the Colorado Springs area in 2019.
She performed throughout Colorado over the next few years, until a cancer diagnosis in 2023 derailed many of her musical aspirations. She stepped away from the stage for a year to undergo extensive surgery and recovery.
Cami released her crowd-funded debut album, “Run Free,” in August 2013. She released her single “Free” in May 2021, followed by singles “Power of the Blood” and “How Do We Wanna Go Out” in the summer of 2022. In the winter of 2022, she released “A Cami Maree Christmas.” Her most recent EP, “Scars,” was released in August 2023 and she is currently working on the full album expected in early 2025.
