Village Green Park stewards welcome public input

Thank you for your interest in the Village Green.

Thank you for your interest in the Village Green.

In 2000 a group of community volunteers formed the Village Green Stewards to assist in developing the site management plan for the Village Green. That group continues to provide on-site management and stewardship, reporting problems and recommendations to the Vashon Park District board of commissioners.

The intended park use is as a farmers market on market days and for general use by the community as a true village green the rest of the time. It was the site of the recent Equinox celebration and has hosted numerous dance, music and theater activities.

Last October marked the opening of the public restroom, a major part of phase 2 of the park plan. This structure includes a public drinking fountain, contributed by the Vashon Soroptimists.

The stewards were meeting the day of The Beachcomber article and editorial regarding concerns about the Village Green to approve signage for the Green that clarifies rules for park use. When signs are posted, the King County deputies should more easily deal with unauthorized uses. Please contact the police directly to report such activities.

The stewards meet monthly at Ober Park every fourth Wednesday at 4 p.m. to discuss ongoing concerns of the Village Green.

We encourage and welcome participation by anyone concerned or interested in the park, its uses and its future. It was designed by and for the community, and it will take the community to continue to make it happen.
