Vashon is a small place, and we are being given a big gift by the Vashon Theatre. This fall they are screening superb live theater and dance events. So far I have seen two remarkable performances, “Two Gentlemen of Verona” as performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-Upon-Avon, and “Medea” by England’s National Theatre. It doesn’t get any better than this.w Sadly, the turnout has been less than encouraging.
We are a strong art-loving community, and I hope we will not only support Vashon Theatre in this endeavor, which other communities can only dream of getting, but enrich ourselves as well. We still have the opportunity this fall to see “Streetcar Named Desire,” “Frankenstein” and “Of Mice and Men,” all performed by the National Theatre, and two different performances by the Bolshoi Ballet, plus a series of free last Tuesday films from PBS. And there is more I am not even listing.
This is arts and educational programming at its best.
