The quilt store is a wonderful place on Vashon. There’s no dispute. At the same time, I couldn’t read all the recent letters about the quilt shop having to move and not respond.
I have lived here for 20 years and am an avid supporter of island businesses. The owners of the building brought 50 years of great service to the island with Robinson’s Furniture. Many of us bought furniture or furnished a room, or perhaps an entire home, with their quality selection. When they closed, they put the building on the market without much luck.
I wonder why, if the community felt the quilt store was so indispensable, it wasn’t purchased for that purpose. They knew that the family needed to sell the building, and it was only a matter of time.
And for the record, the real estate transaction hasn’t closed yet, and I feel we, as a community, need to respect the buyers’ and sellers’ decisions no matter what they do.
Thanks to Paul and Anja for the creativity you brought to Vashon with your quilt store and thank you Mary and Chuck for all the great years of service via Robinson’s Furniture and The Floor Store.
