This letter is in response to The Beachcomber’s April 28 article, “Confronting Vashon’s low vaccination rates.” Vaccinations are complex. Some…
The idea of abandoning the Tramp Harbor/Dockton Road is ridiculous and insensitive to the transportation needs of Maury Island and Vashon residents.
I read The Beachcomber article, “Historic farmhouse gets placed on real estate market” (May 5) with a heavy heart. I…
I have recently returned to Vashon with my husband and our four children. We chose Vashon in part because of the schools. As a parent I like to know whom my kids are hanging out with, who the parents of each student are and where they live. Vashon provides both excellent schools and a tight community. We support school levies and pay plenty in taxes to live here.
Ten years ago, my son and I moved to Vashon. My son, now 17, recently competed and won first in the state for multiple percussion, an endeavor that started in earnest last November but in all fairness began years ago during his early years at Chautauqua Elementary School

School dances — something that students have looked forward to and attended in large numbers — are headed toward extinction. The annual spring prom last weekend was cancelled because only a few tickets were sold. The tolo dance in February was sparsely attended and a big money loser for the school, despite expensive entertainment alternatives like laser tag and a video game bus.
The past few weeks I have followed the news of a potential buyout of Glacier with great interest.
I have a suggestion for how our Island could be “greener.” Ban outdoor burning. More than once I’ve had to…
Am I the only one that found it odd that Thriftway was celebrating “Earth Day” with a front page ad…
We have a responsibility to protect the health of others.
At a public meeting April 22, I was alarmed to hear that the King County Roads Division will not recommend keeping the road along Tramp Harbor open.
I have some questions for all Vashon Island residents. I live in southeastern Washington and have not lived on Vashon for eight years. I grew up on Vashon (lived there 45 years) and still have an interest in her welfare.
