The downtown Vashon Library has been a great joy to so many of our citizens: The parents who bring their children to play at Ober Park; the people who go to the grocery stores, our local pharmacy, other stores and eating establishments and to the senior center; the many apartment dwellers, and others who walk to the library.
If we only could vote, then you would know how much we love our cozy little Vashon library and want it to remain in its present location.
As I stood outside the library the other day, I talked to several young mothers about the proposed new library. These are some of their comments:
“I have lived in areas with larger libraries, but I like my small library. I can order any book and have it delivered in three days.”
“I have never had a parking problem, but if I did, I could always park on the street.”
“Now is not the time to build a new library.”
“I like the library here, but I wish they would extend the hours — that would give our kids more time to study at the library — and perhaps add another librarian. They could also utilize the meeting room to gain more space.”
