Letter to the Editor: Two Wall show makes us think

Thank you for your commentary on the current Two Wall Gallery show, “Subversion, Sacrilege and the Occasional Monkey.” I thought it was well-written and presented many viewpoints.

As a regular attendee of First Friday openings, what I saw at this show were many new faces both looking at and interacting with the art. These were individuals who do not, as far as I know, normally come to art openings or look at gallery offerings at all on Vashon-Maury Island. Many of them were younger than the usual crowd.

Islanders are examining the details within these pieces and commenting. That is a good, not a bad, thing. Isn’t a main purpose of art, no matter what the medium, to make people experience and think? Doesn’t this exhibit then meet that criteria?

I really appreciate this show for the contribution it has made to the Island art scene. Thanks to the curator and the artists for making this possible.
