There used to be an advertisement calling attention to the evils of domestic abuse. It began something like this: “No one wakes up and says, ‘I think I’ll abuse my child today.’”

Today we have a form of child abuse that is rampant and sanctioned in our culture under the false names of personal liberty and responsibility. I speak of abortion. Beyond child abuse, it is an abuse of the bonds of love that most deeply define us, and its victims are not limited to the unborn.

It is bad enough that we murder each other with guns and other weapons, and that we routinely deny each other the most basic charity, needs and liberties. We should not extend this through some bizarre rationale that says it is better for us all if a child is not allowed to be born, or that we cannot afford it, and terminate a life that has neither voice nor defense against the process. Even a child that is chastised is allowed to cry.

God did not make us to do these sorts of things to each other. His love surrounds us and we must strive to emulate it and return it. Toward this end we must expose truth wherever possible. 

There is much more to right to life than is commonly discussed. With life there are untold options, but with abortion there is only one easily-measured result — death for a human being. Also I think there are more people who oppose abortion than are willing to admit it out of fear of reprisal and rejection by friends.
