I am writing to point out a dangerous situation on Vashon Highway just south of 103rd Street in front of the north end fire station. This is a congested area because off-loading ferry traffic, vehicles trying to turn to/from parking lot hill, buses, and pedestrians all come together.
Speeding drivers trying to make the ferry and impatient drivers who want to get home are sometimes tempted to use the middle turning lane as an opportunity to bypass traffic. Please don’t do this! I have witnessed a narrow escape from a potentially deadly motorcycle/bus accident. In addition, on two occasions I have been nearly been run down when attempting to cross Vashon Highway on foot.
These near misses occured when drivers decided to pass a line of stopped traffic. The turning lane is NOT a passing lane. Vashon Highway is a two lane road, with no passing allowed at that point. For your own safety as well as the safety of others, please do not allow impatience to override common sense!
