Letter to the Editor: Board was unanimous on delaying vote

The Vashon School Board voted unanimously at its last meeting to put the capital bond package on the ballot in February.

We do not fault The Beachcomber for getting incomplete information. It is true the board initially voted 3-2 to delay the previously planned November bond until February, but the final vote, to put the bond on the ballot in February, was 5-0.

The Board’s decision is momentous. All five directors agree that the school district’s facilities need to be upgraded. Each of us might package the bond a little differently; some would add to it and some would postpone a few things, but we have reached a consensus that all support.

We have worked long and hard to get to this place. We understand that the economy makes it hard for some members of the community to support the bond. We understand that the economy also makes it a good time to seek bids for large projects and presents an opportunity to save the taxpayers money. In the end it will be up to you, the voters, to decide.
