We already have scheduled Metro transit, Metro Access vans and two Metro Community Vans that are available for a wide range of transportation services that do not put the Vashon Park District (and Vashon taxpayers) at further liability. Ferrying Vashon youth off island to various regional skate parks is a recipe for a smorgasbord of lawsuits, including for vehicle accidents, lack of supervision and control, injuries while visiting skate parks, drug activity, bullying, etc.
So what if this new liability comes with a “free” van that King County no longer wants to maintain or be responsible for. It’s a sick horse.
The park board should say “no thank you,” or just say “no” for once.
