Consider many factors when choosing a tattoo parlor | Letter to the Editor

The folks at Sea Change Tattoo Parlor noted with interest last Wednesday’s article on the opening of a new salon in town that will feature tattooing (“A new salon offers more than hair care”). But we have a response to the comment made regarding our existing shop that “…our clients are really different. Between our two styles, we’ll be able to satisfy a lot of different people.”

We’d like to point out that since we opened nearly three years ago we’ve made a point to provide a friendly, professional, welcoming atmosphere to all Island residents (over the age of 18) interested in creating a work of art that will last a lifetime. While the artwork in our tattoo parlor reflects the long history and heritage of the art form that we are proud to preserve, we specialize not only in the traditional Americana-style tattoos seen prominently on our walls, but also in a wide array of styles including Japanese, floral, fancy script, tribal, nautical, etc.  We’ve done everything from tiny intricate bees the size of fingernails to full Japanese sleeves.

We encourage everyone considering a tattoo to research shops and find an artist whose style and aesthetic is a good match for you. A reputable artist will have worked with a mentor for several years and will have an extensive portfolio featuring works in many different styles.

Paco Rollins, owner of Sea Change Tattoo Parlor, worked with his mentor and partner for 13 years before opening Sea Change. Continuing this age-old tradition, Casey Buxton is in the third year of a working apprenticeship with Paco and has emerged as a world-class artist in his own right.

Because a tattoo lasts a lifetime, we encourage people to take the decision to get one seriously and research your options. Stop on in anytime during business hours, browse our portfolios, and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have. We’re here to work with you and help you make the tattoo of your dreams a reality.
