Living along the water on the north end has been a wonderful experience. What is troubling is that several people are oblivious to their impact on neighbors.

I was informed shortly after moving here that it is illegal to toss yard waste on the beach. Someone threw hawthorne branches out and they washed up, lodging between where I live and my neighbor’s for several months. When I removed this blight, I was stabbed by one of the thorns causing my hand and arm to swell up. I was able to relieve the swelling with an Epsom salt bath.

Several nights ago, someone let off firework explosions, upsetting my little dog very much, not to mention my neighbor who was traumatized as a child during the bombings in London. Such noise disturbs many dogs, people and wildlife. I find the disregard for the well-being of others in using fireworks before and long after the Fourth of July to be simply rude, not to mention illegal.

Life along the water can be serene, inspiring and a joy. Those who fail to be responsible for their yard waste force others to clean up after them. Those who use fireworks whenever they feel like it can completely disrupt a family’s tranquil evening. I would like to see such behaviors curtailed by those responsible for imposing their obliviousness on the rest of us. We all have a right to enjoy this beautiful region without unreasonable stress.
