In response to last week’s commentary by Emily Scott (“Don’t feel guilty for skipping the farmers market,” April 15), I just want to say this: Actually, we need you.
One of the primary ways to support a vibrant local economy on Vashon is to have a thriving market. Fifty-five percent of our family income is generated at the farmers market. Additionally, a few of the more than 50 businesses that got their start at the Vashon Farmers Market include Patty’s Tamales (soon selling to Costco) Anu Rana’s, Zamorana and King Caramel.
There are only two ways to kill a market: no customers or no venders. We all need to show up.
