Northwest Sports began to expand at the beginning of April, taking on the space next door vacated by Phil Spencer of Flash Photo.
While all the details are not figured out yet for their new 300 square feet, some plans are in place.
“We want to strengthen our current areas and provide better focus for what we carry,” said co-owner Dave Page.
In the small store, which carries everything from anoraks to water bottles, some items were overlooked before, Page noted.
“We carry Rick Steves’ travel gear,” Page said, noting a hanging display with a multitude of travel items. “But most people don’t even know we do.”
Shoes are one department that has already expanded, thanks to the additional space, Page said. The store now carries infant and toddler shoes and will soon carry more shoes and boots for adults.
Women’s coats have been popular, he noted, and he expects to expand those offerings and carry more sizes, styles and colors. For kids, he hopes to offer Adidas warm-ups. The store has carried kids’ soccer and basketball shorts for some time, but tucked on the bottom of a double rack, they were not easy to spot.
Northwest Sports has been in the same spot for 15 years. Page noted he was sad to lose Spencer as his longtime neighbor, but is pleased, too, about the opportunities ahead.
“We are really excited to have the chance to expand,” he said.
