Nestled in the back of the yellow house that is home to the Vashon Youth Council is a new massage therapy office: Daydreams Massage. Owner Alyce Kellogg has spent the last several weeks painting and carpeting the space and will open for business July 1.
Kellogg has been a massage therapist for two years, specializing in Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massages as well as other techniques. Daydreams Massage is her first business.
“I really enjoy helping people, and there are people on the Island who can benefit from what I do,” she said.
Kellogg is providing services on a cash basis now but is working toward becoming credentialed with insurance companies and also will soon be able to offer services for Worker’s Compensation claims.
She said she hopes to partner with other Island businesses to offer weekend packages to off-Island residents, and she is aiming to be accessible to commuting Islanders, too, offering appointments into the evening at least four days a week.
Prior to moving to Vashon with her 7-year-old daughter last year, Kellogg lived in Las Vegas for 22 years, where she grew tired of the desert, dirt and cactus. Through a member of her extended family, she found Vashon. When they arrived here, “It was like we came home,” she said.
