Last weekend the Vashon Island Rowing Club wrapped up its fall season with two regattas in Seattle, where the club won two first-place medals and took many second- and third-place finishes.
Last weekend Vashon Island Rowing Club traveled to Victoria, B.C., where master and junior rowers had a strong showing at two regattas held annually and hosted by the University of Victoria. Vashon placed in 12 races overall, with three first-place wins. The events draw some Northwest teams and numerous Canadian teams.
For the first time in its history, the Vashon Island Rowing Club competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston last weekend, sending five boats to the prestigious competition. The club had a strong showing, with three juniors boats and one masters boat placing in the top half of their fields.
The Vashon Island Rowing Club had a strongs howing at its first fall season regatta, the Tail of the Lake Regatta, where 12 of the 17 boats VIRC entered placed in the top three.
Vashon rowers came home victorious from Nationals last weekend, where Vashon rowers earned two silver medals in the extremely competitive event.
Vashon Island Junior Crew (VIJC) garnered 15 medals and qualified four boats for Nationals at the Northwest Regional Regatta at Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash., last weekend. The crew also qualified four boats for Nationals last year, a record for the team at the time.
Vashon Island Junior Crew (VIJC) traveled to Victoria, B.C., last weekend to take part in one of North America’s largest high school crew competitions, the Brentwood Regatta. Competing with 36 teams from Canada, Washington and Oregon, VIJC entered 34 preliminary heats on Friday and Saturday and secured its place in 13 final races. Vashon boats medaled in nine of the races, placing first in four.
Last weekend members of the Vashon Island Rowing Club metaled in 25 of the 43 races they entered at the 18th Annual Covered Bridge Regatta. The regatta, a high school, collegiate and masters event, draws rowers from Washington, California, Arizona, Idaho and Oregon, creating a large field of 1,400 competitors.
Nearly 150 rowers descended on Jensen Point in Burton on Sunday morning for Vashon Island Junior Crew’s first hosting of the Tri-Island Regatta, an unofficial competition with Bainbridge and Orcas Island’s junior crews.

During the last weekend in October, the Vashon Island Rowing Club headed to Victoria, B.C., for a double-regatta weekend. Over the course of two competitions, the junior crew took three first-place wins, one second place and two third place awards. Vashon’s masters team earned one first-place win, as well as one second-place and two third-place prizes.
Competing against 15 regional rowing teams, the Vashon Island Rowing Club entered its first fall regatta at the Tail of the Lake head race at Lake Union on Sunday. Both master and junior rowers competed in a total of 19 races, bringing home five first-place metals, as well as three second-place and three third-place awards.
