Local bluegrass band The High and Lonesome has been playing together for nearly 30 years and will come together for a show at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.
The free show is open to all ages until 11 p.m., then only 21 and older.
Vashon Allied Arts (VAA) will present a lecture with internationally recognized glass artist Preston Singletary as part of its Arts & Humanities series at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Vashon High School theater.
Galleries and art spots will open on Friday, some with new exhibits, while others will be showing work held over from December.
Lapis and Luxe is the most recent business to open its doors this year on the west side of Vashon’s town core.
Housed in the northern half of the former liquor store, Lapis and Luxe is owned by Kimberly Smoot, a licensed aesthetician, and Kathryn Tonnessen, an artist and herbalist.
For a small community of not quite 11,000 residents, the arts are alive and abundant on Vashon. In any given week — except during the holidays — there are not one or two but several arts or art-related events happening on the island.
