In a busy week of games, the Pirates baseball team took their first home loss but followed with two wins on the road.
Riding a two-game winning streak, Vashon entertained the Eatonville Cruisers on Monday, March 25, at Jim Martin Field. The outcome of the game was determined early, as the visitors jumped on Pirate pitching for five runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Josh Myer started the game and pitched into the fourth inning, when he was relieved by Sam Schoenberg, who finished the affair. The pitching duo gave up 12 hits, three of which were home runs. Only six of the 15 runs given up were earned due to the Pirates’ six errors.
The Cruisers’ pitching held the Vashon offense in check, limiting the Pirates to four singles delivered by Kelly Sullivan, Michael Bernheisel, Simon Perrin and Ryan Bernheisel.

After the blow-out loss, Vashon traveled to Charles Wright last Wednesday and bounced back with a well-played 5-2 victory.
The Tarriers took an early lead with two runs in the second. The Pirates fought back with one in the third and took their first lead, 3-2, with two runs in the fifth.
Vashon sealed the deal with two final runs in the seventh. Ezra Lacina pitched
masterful game for the Pirates. He went the distance, scattering five hits and allowing just two runs. He also struck out seven and gave up only a single walk.
It was a team effort offensively for Vashon as six different players (Ben Reoux, Sam Schoenberg, Lacina, Kelly Sullivan, Ryan Bernheisel and Clyde Pruett) had hits, all singles. The Pirates made the most of their timely hits, turning them into five runs. The team also tightened up the defense from the previous game, committing only two errors.

Vashon was on the road again on Friday as they played the always tough Cowboys of Chimacum. The game turned out to be a great pitching duel.
The Cowboys opened the scoring with a run in the first, and the Pirates responded with a run in the second. The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the top of the sixth, when Vashon added a final run to win the nail- biter, 2-1.
For the second game in a row, a Pirate pitcher came through in a big way. This time it was Kelly Sullivan, who pitched a complete gem, allowing only four hits and a single run. He also struck out eight batters.
Josh Myer led the way offensively for Vashon, going three for three on the day with three singles and an RBI. Ezra Lacina chipped in with a double, and Clyde Pruett, Colton Alberthal, Ryan Bernheisel and Sullivan all added singles. The Pirate defense was strong once again, committing only one error.

Vashon improved its league record to 4-3 and overall record to 4-4. Next week, the Pirates play Bellevue Christian twice (away and at home) before spring break, when they will travel to Chelan to play a double header against Chelan High School.
