Hobsen/Person will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Sound Food.

A Poetry Open Mic will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Café Luna. The optional challenge for the night is to write a poem beginning (or including) these three words: “I come from. “ In addition to the challenge poem, all poetry (original or not) is welcome, including poetry of the season.

The Felt Hats will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Sound Food.

Poultry in Motion, a Vashon band, will play lively music at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi. Cover charge is $5. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m.; after that it is for ages 21 and older.

Vashon Junior Civic Ballet will perform “The Nutcracker” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Tickets, sold at the door, are $8 general and $6 for students and seniors. Children 5 and younger are free.

Hobsen/Person and friends will headline the “Jingle Bell Bash” starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Sound Food. Palouse Winery will pour selections from their new offerings, and Shefidgets will serve small plates and appetizers.

Angela Reed will perform at the café at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Reed is a singer and songwriter who Judy Collins desribed as having “the voice of an earth angel — sweet and vibrant and memorable.” To sample her music, visit www.angelareed.com.

Celtic music players and knitters will gather at Café Luna at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, for a combination of jigs, reels, polkas and homespun crafting.

An all-ages Winter Solstice Movement Choir will be led by dancer, choreographer and somatic movement educator Stacy Hinden from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at Havurat Ee Shalom, 15401 Westside Hwy. No dance experience is needed for this event, which is being held to celebrate the darkest night of the year and the return of the light. Movement Choir, created almost a century ago by Rudolf Labin, is a process of bringing diverse communities of people together, synergistically blending personal movement expression with an intention to share a common experience. Suggested donation is $5 for individual and $10 for families.
