Vashon Tech Support has recently re-opened under the new ownership of Islander Terry Peters.

The store, located in downtown Vashon, offers computer servicing, consulting, classes on a variety of subjects and a small retail section. In keeping with the history of the business, it also offers house calls. New services Peters has added are conversion of VHS to DVD and video editing.

“Our philosophy here is necessary service at a reasonable price,” he said.

Peters first began working with computers in 1995 and is entirely self-taught, the best way to learn about computers, he said.

His computer skills led him to run Serious Gamers, an online game review web- site, for five years, as well as provide computer-related contract work for individuals and businesses on the Island.

“I love working on computers,” he said. “It is something I am passionate about.”

The business had belonged to recent high school graduate Jordan Soltman and partners. Peters had not had plans to buy the business, he said, but when its expected sale to other people fell through, his wife Gillian Callison asked him if he was going to buy it. He said no, but she countered quickly, “Oh, yes you are,” Peters recalled.

“This is something I have always wanted to do,” he added.

Vashon Tech Support will be open for people to bring their computers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 am. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The store is closed Mondays.

Rates are $60 per hour with a half-hour minimum for repairs and 15 minutes for consultations.

In the future, he hopes to expand to selling refurbished computers and building high-end custom computers.

Peters’ first day as Vashon Tech Support’s new owner was Saturday, Oct. 9, and so far, business has been good.

“If the last couple of days have been any indication, I think we are going to be quite busy,” he said.
