The Vashon Library, under construction for more than a year, is nearing completion and is set to reopen by the end of March.
Reached last week, Jan Riley, the library’s information supervisor, said shelving has been installed at the remodeled library, the landscaping is almost done and construction is set to be completed within four to six weeks.
“I’m really ready,” Riley said. “I am quite thrilled about getting over there.”
During the course of construction, Riley said, she has walked through the library frequently, and her favorite element is the light, which comes in through the western bank of windows and light monitors in the roof.
The conference room is also a prime feature of the new space, she said, as it has a wall of windows that looks out onto large evergreens and the Ober Park playground beyond.
“It is just beautiful,” she added.
While no date has been set to move into the building — which is some 3,400 square feet larger than the old space — Riley said it will open on a Saturday and will include a ribbon cutting and other festivities for the community.
