Community council board plans retreat, considers new members

The Vashon-Maury Island Community Council is holding a daylong retreat on Sunday, when it will consider applications by two Islanders to join the nine-member board.

Gay Rosser and John Staczek, both active in civic affairs, have asked to join the council’s board. Meanwhile, the board approved, pending ratification by the full council, an earlier application to join the board from Tim Johnson, who moved to Vashon a year ago and calls himself a “pragmatic progressive”

In other board-related news, Frederick Woodruff, who had sent out an e-mail last week announcing his resignation, has decided to stay on the board. He did so, he said, because of the new people joining the board.

“I … had a sense that those individuals will give a nice balance and blend and kind of mitigate the acrimony that’s been plaguing the board lately,” he said.

Hilary Emmer, meanwhile, the longest-serving board member, has officially stepped down.
