Try to set the night on fire

The American Night, a touring Doors tribute act from Seattle, will treat Islanders to a re-creation of a Doors concert at 9 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The show’s bells and whistles include authentic instruments, costumes and psychedelic lighting. 

The Doors, led by the iconic front man Jim Morrison, were one of the most famous bands of the 1960s.

Friday’s show at the Bike will be the third time The American Night has traveled to Vashon.  

“I remember the first time I saw the lead singer for this band,” said Pete Welch, a music promoter on the Island. “He was the spitting image of Jim Morrison. It was sort of creepy, but cool creepy.” 

The show has a $5 cover charge and is open to all ages until 11 p.m., when the venue closes to those younger than 21. 

Get bluesy with Bill Brown 

Bill Brown & The Kingbees will play an all-ages, free show at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Red Bicycle Bistro.  

Brown has performed his high-octane, rocking blues show in venues throughout the Northwest since 1986. 

Island music fans may remember Brown’s band for its performances in the beer garden during the Strawberry Festival in years past. This year, Brown and his band will once again headline the beer garden on Saturday night of this year’s Strawberry Festival.

The Kingbees include John Gaborit, Mike Stango, Tony Handy and John Smiley. All the band members are well-traveled veterans of the music business.

Say hello to the Howdy Boys 

The Howdy Boys will return to Café Luna to set the joint jumping with bluegrass, classic honky tonk and their own original songs at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 2. 

Since the band’s formation in 2008, Jeff Brohier, Rob Bulkley, Doug Bright and Bill Scott have combined their vocal and instrumental abilities with their love of hard-driving, 1950s-style bluegrass to create music played on fiddle, banjo, guitar and upright bass.
