Chamber Music Series finale
Vashon Allied Arts’ 2010-11 Chamber Music Series will have its grand finale in two concerts performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, and Sunday, Feb. 27, at Blue Heron Art Center. Guest performers will include John Covelli on piano and Mark Robbins on French horn. The repertoire will include “String Trio in G Major” by Josef Haydn, “Horn Trio in Eb op. 40” by Johannes Brahms and “Piano Quartet in C Minor, op. 15” by Gabriel Faure. Additional musicians will include Ron Patterson, Roxanna Patterson, Rowena Hammill and Doug Davis. A documentary at Café Luna
Lunavision and Transition Vashon will present a free screening of “Escape from Suburbia” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Café Luna. The film is a documentary that explores Peak Oil — a scientific and social theory based on diminishing oil supplies and problems inherent in other energy options.
Knitters and Celtic players gather
Café Luna will host its regular monthly gathering of knitters and Celtic musicians from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.
Jim Malcolm comes to Vashon
Jim Malcolm, one of Scotland’s premier folk performers, is playing at a house concert on Vashon at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. Tickets are $20. Appetizers will be served at the interval and wine will be for sale, but attendees can also bring their own beverages. Michael Meade explores destiny
Author and mythologist Michael Meade will present “The Second Adventure of Life: Living with Purpose and Meaning,” a blend of storytelling, poetry and discussion, at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Vashon Methodist Church. This event coincides with the release of Meade’s new book, “Fate and Destiny: The Two Agreements of the Soul.” Weaving stories within stories, lacing psychology within cultural analysis and mixing autobiography with myth, Meade aims to subject the ideas of fate and destiny to new interpretations and deeper meanings. A call for Island artists
Seattle artist Kevin D’Amelio has issued a call for Vashon artists to take part in a March show in his Pioneer Square art space. The show, which D’Amelio envisions as a way to showcase the prolific output of Island artists, will open on Thursday, March 3, and close on Sunday, March 13. It will take place in a 3,000-square-foot, ground floor studio in the 619 Western Building. The building currently houses more than 100 artists. There will be a 60/40 split on all sales, with the participating artists getting 60 percent. There will also be a $20 fee to participate.
